Hemp, or industrial hemp, is a variety of the Cannabis sativa plant species that is grown specifically for the industrial uses of its derived products. It is one of the fastest growing plants and was one of the first plants to be spun into usable fiber 50,000 years ago. It can be refined into a variety of commercial items, including skincare, paper, textiles, clothing, biodegradable plastics, paint, insulation, biofuel, food, and animal feed - source Wikipedia
Naturally active hemp has many benefits for your skin and has been hailed as the next 'wonder ingredient' in skincare.
The EU Cosmetics Ingredients Database (CosIng) lists hemp-derived ingredients as an anti-oxidant, skin conditioner and skin protector.
Hemp's powerful anti-oxidant action helps fight against signs of ageing and stimulate collagen production for younger looking skin. It is promising to be a stronger anti-oxidant than Vitamin C.
Almost every skincare condition is based on inflammation, from breakouts to rosacea to sensitivity. Hemp helps soothe inflammation, and reduce redness. It's also perfect for sunburn or after intensive facials.
As a skin conditioner and protector it enhances the appearance of dry or damaged skin by reducing flaking and restoring suppleness. Early studies show hemp can even enhance the effectiveness of other ingredients like hyaluronic acid, making it a true super ingredient
Hemp decreases sebum production, further reducing triggers for acne and oily skin. And it's rich in fatty acids to help nourish and hydrate your skin.
Why is it so effective?
Our bodies have a something called the Endocannabinoid System (ECS), a system of receptors and enzymes, which is crucial for homeostasis (our body's natural ability to keep in balance).
ECS receptors CB1 and CB2 can be found in the skin and are thought to bond with hemp derived ingredients found in our skincare products. This direct interaction can drive profound results.
What to look out for?
Look for real hemp derived ingredients, rather than 'cannabis sativa oil, hemp seed oil, hemp seed extract' which provide fatty acids and moisturisation, but none of the other benefits.
Our hemp is formulated in a high enough concentration to work on your skin. Other products may only have trace amounts, so check where hemp is listed in the ingredients list.
Our hemp is sourced from a longstanding Colorado hemp farm, and processed to strict EU standards. We use independent tests on our skincare products for quality and concentration, both before and after infusion, to make sure what we put in the skincare is what you get out.
